Blah blah blah

Something smart I did when Zephyr was really starting to talk was carry around a piece of paper for a day, jotting down everything he said. Something that wasn't so smart was that I didn't date the paper, so now I have no idea how old he was when he was saying those things. I'd guess he was about a year and a half, an age Jubilee is quickly closing in on. So I did the same thing for her yesterday, and here it is:

Everything Jubilee Said on June 6th, 2008

Nuts...cheese...nuts...cheese
(We say "one," and she responds with) Two...Three!

(I asked her if she wanted rice. She answered:) Yeah. And beans!

Zephyr pee pee

sorry mama (Zephyr taught her to say this. I'm not sure why- she has committed no transgressions to date.)

Dada bite
nice
erase it
doggie

I also wanted to include a couple of conversations I've heard between Zephyr and Jubilee in the past couple of days. One day, they were playing around in the living room, when Jubilee said, "Zephyr, elephant!" Zephyr looked around, answering, "Where? Did it walk past the window?" "Uh-huh," Jubi affirmed. "I didn't see it," Zephyr sadly shook his head.

Over a year ago, I posted all the "why" questions Zephyr asked in one day. Now, he's getting a taste of his own medicine. I overheard this conversation on Thursday:
Z: Jubi, you should hunt when you're older.
J: Why?
Z: So you can eat meat.
J: Why?
Z: Because it's so yummy.
J: Why?
Z: Because it has fiber.
J: Why?
Although he doesn't have his nutritional information straight, you can see that Zephyr's still quite interested in eating meat one day. (For related, golden-oldie blogs, click here and here.)

Even though this is mostly a Jubi blog, I want to take the opportunity to record a couple of words that Zephyr still pronounces in his own special way, which we love. Instead of "remember" Zephyr says "ayember." Instead of "let's" he says "yet's," and instead of "destroy" he says "extroy." For example, when Jubilee is stomping around, pulling things of shelves and ripping up papers, he accurately pronounces her "Jubi the Extroyer." Also, instead of "because" he says "pecause," which is especially endearing to me, as I actually remember thinking the word started the same way in my early days of learning to write.

I loved hearing Jubi talk when I was there. "A bike, a book, a bag" all sound kind of alike if you're not used to being around her. When I was in my room she came in with a tote bag full of stuff and said "purse." Then she took out her (nonfunctioning) cell phone and held it to her ear. I've seen the future!

Hey Nora!

Just found your blog thru Renee. It's great to read what you've been up to. Jubilee has gotten so big! I love your idea to list her words- I may steal that one for the next child. I have a blog now.

really great. i just love your blogg and think about how much parents miss out these days on sending their kids to day care 10 hours a day 5 days a week from age 6 mo. on. A real shame. Obviously there is SO much learning that goes on during this time and I just can't help but think it must be so confusing for them not to have the consistent steady voice of a parent day in and out. to me its so not suprising we have a world full of un-regulated kids...

just love it that you are doing all of this... i know you do to
