Dada Makes My Day Okay

That's the name of the little picture book I made Jon for Father's Day this year. It's patterned after the book Breastmilk Makes My Tummy Yummy, a favorite around here. The book I made features pictures of Jon as a Dada through the years, along with some goofy couplets. It was inspired by the Mother's Day Monsters poem he wrote me for Mother's Day. I thought about posting each page with the text, but it would take me forever to dig up all the right pictures again. Here is a sampling:

Have something that needs to be fixed?

Dada will get the solution mixed.

When Dada gets a call for work,
It's definitely time to go berserk.

There's no finer Dada in the world,
Just ask Zephyr or our baby girl.

With Mommy we must always beware,
But Dada never washes or combs our hair.

It is always plain to see,
Dada loves his Zephyr and his Jubilee.

He loved the book. We also bought him the swimming trunks he's sporting in the picture below. I've been meaning to buy him some ever since we got married. He's been swimming in some running shorts I used to wear...in high school. Last week we were biking home from the pool when we stopped to talk with our neighbor Carrie. "Those are some shorty shorts, there, Jon," she said. "I think I can see your twig and berries." "I feel very European," Jon nodded. He says he's not ashamed to admit that his twig and berries probably won't slip out of these.

Unfortunately, we had to spend part of today cramped in the car driving home from a family roadtrip. Fortunately, the kids slept through most of it, and we had a really great, connecting conversation.
