Overheard at the Park Today...

Zephyr and his buddies Caleb and Jonah found a short shady bush that they sat under at the park today, calling it their "fort." I was following Jubilee as she toddled around, and was lucky enough to overhear this conversation, spoken in serious tones with solemn voices:

C: Cars don't have blood.
J: Neither do guitars. Trees have blood, though.
C: No, they don't.
Z: Yes, they do have blood. I know they have blood because they drink.
J: Trees do have blood. When we were camping...
Z: (interrupting) And the leaves are their food!
C: No, the ground is their food.
Z: Yeah. And ears? You hear with them. Because ears have an ear drum. I know because I study science. I'm a scientist.
J: Let's go tell Grady we're studying about bodies!

At some point, another playgroup friend, Emily, wandered over to the boys. At 2.5, she's mostly under their radar. But they didn't seem to mind. She sat with them for a few minutes, digging in the dirt, when Zephyr turned to her and said, "You smell like Play-doh!" She accepted the remark with unblinking composure. Knowing how much they all love Play-doh, it may have been an exquisite compliment.

One more thing. This morning when Zephyr woke up, we asked him how it felt to be four. "I forgot I was four," he answered. The picture above is of Zephyr riding on the wonderful gift that several of his friends pitched in to get him for his birthday. He's named it Tigger, and he loves it.
