Also, Zephyr received a little birthday money, which we planned to use for knee and elbow pads, so we could return the ones his friend Grady generously loaned him. (They like to play a game which involves throwing themselves to the floor while wearing the pads. Come to think of it, that's the whole game.) At Target today, I discovered that a package of knee and elbow pads cost just about the same as a package of knee and elbow pads PLUS a pair of Spidey-skates. Zephyr was delighted, and could hardly wait through lunch to go try them out. I can't say he's a natural, but I bet he'll be gliding along before long.
I'll end with a small anecdote: on the way to the store, Jubilee had a bowl with a few crackers in it. Zephyr told me that she had spilled it. "Babies do that," I explained to him. "That's why I just give her small amounts of things, because I know she might spill." He turned to Jubilee and said in a kind voice, "You didn't do anything wrong, Jubi." Pause. "Mommy, if Darth Vader gave food to a baby, he wouldn't do it right. He'd give too much, and it would make a big mess."
