People ask "No baby yet?" But of course, we do have a baby. We just don't know what she looks like, and she's very easy to take care of. My pregnancy journal entry from "Full Term Plus 5" when I was pregnant with Zephyr reads "Suffered from pre-partum depression today- both Jon and I. We decided to get out of the house- went to get pizza and ate it standing out in the sun. Then went to see Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind."
But I don't feel at all depressed today. It's Thursday, and I'm enjoying what may be my last hour to myself for some time. A privilege I worked hard for this week, as my mother is visiting, so I pretty much pushed her out the door with Jon and Zephyr to go to the gym. Besides blogging, I'm eating my favorite candy, which are only available this time of year- Peppermint Nougats. They are the candy no one ever mentions. As far as I can tell, I'm the only one who has heard of them, let alone gets excited about them and eats them without counting. If you're also a fan, make sure to leave a comment about it, so I'll know I have company. I like them frozen.
I am honestly feeling fabulous. I'm not out hiking the Himalayas or anything, but I'm moving around fairly easily and am in mainly good spirits. I'm enjoying the daily roulette of putting on maternity clothes, thinking "Is this the last maternity outfit I'll wear...ever?" And then taking them off at night, thinking, "When I wash these pants, will it be to wear them again, or to pass them on?" Last time I bought groceries, I put things in my cart, silently asking each item, "Will I eat you before or after our baby is born?" Now, our nightly ritual of picking up the house frantically for 15 minutes is even more crucial, so I don't have to go to bed wondering "If I wake up in labor, will I have time between contractions to declutter the dining room table?"
Although I am still enjoying each day with life as-is, there are some compelling reasons to have this baby sooner rather than later. Carrie, our good friend who has graciously agreed to attend our birth as "Zephyr's person," is leaving for vacation on the 19th. Marnie, a midwife on our all-star birthing team, is doing likewise on the 21st. My mom isn't sticking around forever, and while it is easier for me to get things done with her here even before the baby comes, her usefulness will really kick in while helping us out post-partum. Oh, and I think she'd like to hold the baby while she's here!
That's the news from right here right now. Except for one final proclamation:
Peppermint Nougat lovers unite!

Hey Nora! Thought I'd check for a baby update. Glad to see you're doing great. Peppermint Nougats are also my favorite Christmas Candy. I love to eat the white center with the Christmas Tree first. I know that it is all the same, but for some reason the center tastes better to me! I'll have to try them frozen this year.
Tell your Mom I said "Hi!"
Alyssa :)
I love the peppermint nougats too! Whenever I find them I eat them- they are always the candies lingering whenever people have candy dishes out- and whenever I devour them I always get "oh those are so old, are you sure you want to eat them" Where do you buy them?
Hi, Simmonses! Are there three or four of you by now? As you can see, I found the blog at last. I am not sure if I know exactly to which candies y'all are referring, but I pretty much approve of anything peppermint-y - ice cream, pie... Trader Joe's in ABQ had pepperminty oreos recently so I support your enthusiasm.
Hope all goes well. Fond regards to your mom!
